Have you received your MSXVR and don't know how to start? This is your site. Here you will find some tips of this new machine.
Temper your anxiety, test your patience and, if you can manage it, review the tips below for your first contact.

Updating the system
When a new build comes out, there are two ways to upgrade the system:
1. From the graphic environment
Double click on the icon Update VR
2. From VRDOS
(recommended)
Use this command: PKG /CLEAN /UPDATE
When this command is executed, a window should appear on the screen indicating the version of the update and what is new:
If you don't get that window and what appears on the screen is a Connection Error. You don't have an internet connection. Check your connection to the router, if it has an IP address, the gateway is correctly set, the DNS. To check all this, you have to use the NET command from VRDOS.
What happens if I break or corrupt my SD card?
You must download the image from https://msxvr.com/resources/ and then restore it to the SD card with Win32DiskImager if you are using Windows or Balena Etcher if you are using a MAC.

Select the .img file, under Device select your SD card drive and finally click the Write button.
How to mount a unit with ftp and samba
URL: MSXLIBRARY.DDNS.NET
USER/PASS: msxvr/msxvr
MOUNT B: FTP:MSXLIBRARY.DDNS.NET
MOUNT /RW B: SAMBA:[IP address]/[Directoy]
I have my MSXVR connected via HDMI and I can't see anything on the screen
Checks if the CAPS Lock is turned on/off when the key is pressed. If it works, it is a wire problem. Check that the hdmi cable is correctly connected to the MSXVR. If the wire is moving a little, it may be tripping over the case. Try to connect it correctly or even use another hdmi wire.
Changing MSXVR resolution
We recommend setting the default, to 800x600 because it will certainly not cause problems for TVs and monitors. It is the most compatible.
If you change to a resolution where the machine does not start or boot but you do not get an image on the screen, we recommend restoring the SD card from an image file.
Download ALL BIOS ROMS used in the MSXVR
From VRDOS run this command:
PKG /INSTALL SYSTEM_VMACHINES_ROMS
How to run your games from a pendrive (rom, dsk, cas, bas,etc)
From VRDOS with the command PLAY:
PLAY filename.ext
If you want to run it on a predefined machine:
PLAY filename.ext /system msx /model [msx/msx2/msx2+/msxtr]
I want to make a backup of my cartridges
Execute this command from VRDOS:
GR /S filename.rom
Your great ally to solve problems and notify them
Execute the REPORT command from VRDOS and a window like this will appear:
There are three REPORT types:
BUG: To indicate a problem or fault you have encountered.
New Cartridge: To send a report of a new cartridge that does not work.
Suggestion: To make any kind of suggestion.

Things you should NOT do with your MSXVR
Like any current computer with an operating system installed, shutting it down in the wrong way causes problems.
These are the right ways to turn off your MSXVR.
User your MSXVR as an external keyboard
Did you know that you can use your MSXVR as an external keyboard? Just take care that the MSXVR is swithed off and you may connect to your computer (PC, MAC, linux) by the USB-B Port.
Are you one of those who avoid using the mouse and prefer keyboard shortcuts? Here you have a short reference for the special key por PC
PC
"Menú" key = Mouse right button or contextual menu.
"CODE" key = "Alt Gr" key equivalence.
"Kana" and "Graph" keys = Windows key.

My computer is not responding, it seems to be locked up
Update to a Developer version
Usually, the weekends is the time to test the new version of the MSXVR environment. This means that during the weekend you can't update your system normally.
If you're one that you can't wait for an stable release, you can update to the release candidate executing the next steps:
1.- Write user developer in the prompt and press [Enter]
2.- When the system request you the password, just press [Enter]
Now you can update the environment as usual: PKG /CLEAN /UPDATE
It's obvious that you can do this under your own risk,

Troubleshooting
My computer is not responding, it seems to be locked up
- Press the POWER button for a few seconds and stop pressing it. It should just turn off.
- Press Control Alt Del to restart the system, if doesn't work, disconnect the power wire and HDMI, wait 10 or 15 seconds and connect the HDMI wire first and then the power wire.
